MACHANA PRIMARY SCHOOL OFFICIALLY OPENED

Residents of Machana settlement in the Moshupa District Council this morning witnessed the official opening of their primary school by His Excellency the President, Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi. The President was accompanied by First Lady, Mrs Neo Masisi who is the Patron of Machana Primary School and other government officials.

Machana Primary School which is in a remote area is a satellite school built with the help of the private sector. The school graduated its first batch of Standard 7 pupils in 2022 with a 77% pass rate.

Officiating at the ceremony, President Masisi expressed pride and elation at the opening of the school, especially in a remote place. He said that the project was one of the Government’s promise of taking services nearer to the people.

The President further said that Machana Primary School addresses the issue of inclusivity and leaving no one behind. President Masisi emphasised that children’s right to education must be respected and protectected regradless of their dwelling place since they are the leaders of tomorrow.

Dr Masisi said that the country’s Vision 2036 intends to drive Botswana towards a knowledge based economy with a strong human capital. He therefore explained that this can only be achieved through the provision of quality education for all.

The President thanked all stakeholders who made it possible for Machana Primary School to be completed. He urged others to also take part in investing in the education of Batswana saying they have a patriotic duty to empower the communities around them.

The Minister of Basic Education and Skills Development Dr. Douglas Letsholathebe buttressed President Masisi’s words saying it was important for the Government and the private sector to work together in the development of the country. Dr Letsholathebe said Government alone will be overwhelmed hence the need for partnerships.
