In concluding their preliminary visit to Gaborone, Botswana in preparation for the upcoming US/AFRICA Business Summit slated for July, the Corporate Council on Africa (CCA) and the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) this morning (03 February 2023) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA).Welcoming the CCA and MTI delegations was The Permanent Secretary to the Ministry, Ms. Malebogo Morakaladi who thanked the CCA delegation led by their President and CEO, Ms. Florizelle Liser for coming to Botswana ahead of the Summit to appreciate its offering and also engage with key stakeholders during the visit. In her remarks, Ms. Morakaladi also gave an overview of the key highlights for the MOA which were the dates of the Summit along with the theme. The US/AFRICA Business Summit has been slated for 11th -14th July in Gaborone under the theme “Enhancing Africa’s Value in Global Value Chains”. “This year’s theme gives recognition that there is a need for value addition to our raw materials and active participation in regional and global value chains thereby creating an investment, jobs, and opportunities for our people,” said Ms. Morakaladi. In closing her remarks Ms. Morakaladi also expressed the economic benefits that this Summit will bring to Batswana business through networking and the provision of services in various sectors.Following the official signing of the MOA by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Honourable Mmusi Kgafela, and CCA President and CEO, Ms. Florizelle Liser, both signatories expressed gratitude to each other for the opportunity to collaborate on this high-level occasion. Honourable Kgafela applauded both delegations for collaborating in an agile manner and wished that it continued right up until the conclusion of the Summit. For her part, Ms. Liser of the CCA extended the same gratitude and thanked all Batswana and all key stakeholders in both private and public sectors for their hospitality.
