Launch Of The Loc For The Africa Softball Senior Women Qualifiers 2023

The Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) Vice Chairperson, Mrs Tebogo LebotseSebego, this morning launched the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the Africa Softball Senior Women Qualifiers 2023 billed for the 6th to 10th February 2023 in Gaborone after the Botswana Softball Association successfully bid to host the Africa qualifiers.

The BNSC Vice Chairperson confirmed that due processes were followed by the Botswana Softball Association (BSA) with the BNSC ultimately acceding to their request to try their luck alongside other African countries. This will be the first time for a softball event of this nature to take place in Botswana with the majority of the qualifiers having been hosted in South Africa. The qualifiers will pave way for 2 women teams to qualify for a place at the Europe/Africa stage later in the year to determine those that will reach the World Competitions in 2024.

The Vice Chair advised the BSA President, Mr Katlholo Mosimanegape, to build his LOC undertaking on a strong foundation of collaboration, stakeholder engagement and learning from past leaders who have journeyed the same path.

“My piece of advise, having been previously in the same position of you as a host President is that you keep in close vision the dual role you have of hosting a successful event and the crucial role to ensure that Team Botswana is very well prepared to qualify. The softball proud has to be your greatest showing and delivery,” said Mrs LebotseSebego.

With up to at least 6 countries expected to participate in the qualifiers, the event will leave a legacy for young athletes to associate themselves with softball and sport in general. The Vice Chair noted that the LOC will be taking a huge responsibility of leaving no stone unturned in putting up a good show on behalf of softball, sport and the country by providing the best hospitality to visiting nations. She assured the meeting that the BNSC will be there to provide the necessary support and guidance. Mrs LebotseSebego appealed to the private sector for their support towards the event to enable the entire nation to succeed.

“It is now my singular honour and priviledge to declare the LOC for the Africa Softball Senior Women Qualifiers 2023 officially launched,”she concluded.
