Botswana Joins THE World In Remembrance Of Road Traffic Victims
The third Sunday of November each year is set aside by the United Nations to remember to road accidents vuctims across the World. Botswana therefore joined the rest of the World in this Rememberance under the theme “Justice”.
His Honour the Vice President Mr Slumber Tsogwane officiating at the event stressed the significance of appreciatibg those who support road accident victims, family, medical professionals, emergency crews and the police who normally work on the front line during road crashes with the sole objective of saving lives.
The Vice President further said that the theme for this year challenges all stakeholders and authorities to focus their attention on victims of road traffic crash and ensure that any post-crash action is placed at the centre of justice for them. It calls for all organs of the justice system to be proactive in the areas of law enforcement, post-crash investigation, criminal prosecution and compensation where applicable.
Moreover, Mr Tsogwane implored the public to avoid high speed, drinking and driving, carelessness on roads, pedestrian misconduct, distracted driving by the usage of electronic gadgets and driving under fatigue to shun road accidents.
For his part, The Minister of Transport and Public Works Honourable Eric Mothibi Molale said as a Ministry they will put an eye on enforcement, corruption, and engineering of roads because these contribute immensely to road accidents.
