President 𝐃𝐑. Mokgweetsi E. K. Masisi attends the world leader’s summit at the 7th session of the conference of the parties to the United Nations Framework convention on climate change

His Excellency Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi , President of the Republic of Botswana, will participate at the World Leaders’ Summit at the 27th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27), from the 7th-8th November 2022, in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.

At the Summit, global leaders will tackle the growing challenge of climate change and consider progress on the implementation of the Paris Agreement. His Excellency the President, is expected to participate at a number of High-Level Sessions including those addressing food security; climate finance; water security; and the climate crisis in Africa.

The President will also deliver a National Statement that will among others inform on Botswana’s National Climate Change Policy and steps being taken to address climate change and its effects. Additionally, the President will deliver a statement on behalf of the Group of Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), of which Botswana is the current Chair for the period 2022-2023.

Further, His Excellency will host a High-Level Event in collaboration with the United Nations Science-Policy-Business Forum on the Environment (UN-SPBF); the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Regional Office for Africa; the African Development Bank; and the African Union Commission; under the theme, “Empowering A Climate-Resilient Africa for the 21st Century; Articulating Vision and Opportunity Policies, Technologies, Investment and Cooperation.”

His Excellency the President is accompanied by Honourable Dr. Lemogang Kwape, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Honourable Mr. Fidelis Molao, Minister of Agriculture; Honourable Philda Kereng, Minister of Environment and Tourism and Senior Government Officials.
