Boxing Champ Honours The President, Thanks Botswana

Affectionately called “Small”, for his diminutive size, Ofentse Bagwasi is the current champion and holder of the World Boxing Federation Super Featherweight title. This morning the boxing champion honoured the President of the Republic of Botswana, His Excellency Dr Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi with a visit at the Office of the President.
Bagwasi won his title after outclassing Tanzania’s Said Chino by a landslide unanimous decision over a 12 round bout in Gaborone on the 26th August 2022. The courtesy visit accorded him an opportunity to exhibit his title, the WBF Belt, to His Excellency the President, Dr Masisi.
Further on, His Excellency the President, Dr Masisi congratulated the champion on his triumph and implored him to live like a professional, a winner, as well as to keep winning so that he could rise through the boxing ranks.
His Excellency the President, Dr Masisi assured Bagwasi of the Government and Batswana’s support as there are agencies in place to facilitate the support. The President also called on the private sector to associate themselves with icons like Bagwasi as the country has such rare gems who can accord the companies a competitive advantage. His Excellency the President, Dr Masisi further called on Bagwasi’s coaches, promoters, sponsors and other sports movements to continue bringing those ‘big fights’ and matches to Botswana as they have the potential of making Botswana an attractive destination.
In response, the boxing champion expressed gratitude to His Excellency the President and the Government of Botswana for availing a conducive environment for sportsmen to showcase their talents. He also thanked his coaches, sponsors and Batswana for their huge support and assured them of more glory.
Mr. Bagwasi’s next match will be his title defence in December at the Gaborone International Convention Centre. In his corner, Bagwasi has Scud Missile Promotions as his promoters and Coca-Cola Beverages Botswana as his sponsors.
