INCEPTA Communications Agency Hosts GBV Documentary Screening

Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy & Implementation) in the Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sport & Culture Mr. Keabetswe Lesiela has commended Batswana who continue to take the initiative to participate in the National GBV Response in their own space. Mr Lesiela was speaking at an event held at Masa Capitol Cinema in Gaborone yesterday by Incepta Communications Agency in collaboration with the Gender Based Violence Prevention and Support Centre to present a documentary titled “GBV Documentary Screening”.

He explained that it is critical to denounce the continuation of GBV cases and address the underlying causes of toxic masculinity and abuse against women and children. He added that social norms, values and stereotypes contribute to dominant notions of violence, which eventually undermine women’s right to life. He buttressed that one of government’s efforts in ending the scourge is developing concrete strategies aimed at mitigating against intimate partner Gender-Based Violence. He indicated that Government has taken an upper hand in recognizing the gravity posed by GBV on Botswana’s economy and intends to act expeditiously in dealing with such.

Mr. Lesiela called out to the private sector to join forces with government and help abolish the permeating statistics of GBV cases that dilute our precious country’s reputation. He added that prioritizing mainstreaming of GBV is the only guarantee to achieving sustainable developments with more focus on gender equality. In closing, he invited attendees to join the Ministry during the commemoration of International Men’s Day and 16 Days of Activism Against Violence on Women and Children in the month of November.
