BPS and UNICEF sign a joint rolling work plan

The Acting Commissioner of Police, Mr Phemelo Ramakorwane signed a Joint Rolling Work Plan (RWP) 2022-2023 with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Deputy Representative, Ms Alexandra Ilmer this morning (27/05/2022) at Police Headquarters in Gaborone.

The main objective of the document is to lay out the collaborative milestones on Child Protection by the two organizations. UNICEF has committed to strengthening capacity for Botswana Police Service through training, development and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures and the construction of three Child Friendly Service Centres.

Speaking at the event, the Acting Commissioner of Police Mr Phemelo Ramakorwane appreciated the support by UNICEF, stating that BPS needs these kind of collaborations in improving their response and intervention strategies. He added that the establishment of the Gender and Child Protection Branch is one way of showing BPS commitment in dealing with gender related crimes as well as children’s issues.

For her part, Ms Alexandra Ilmer said one of UNICEF’s main objectives is to eliminate all forms of violence against women and children. She said the organisation was committed to providing all the necessary support to ensure the fulfilment of this objective.

BPS has already conducted one training and developed Standard Operating Procedures on the handling of issues on women and children through the support offered by UNICEF.
