The Ministry of Transport and Communications in conjunction with the Trans Kalahari Corridor Secretariat will embark on a Thank a Trucker Road Safety campaign to acknowledge Truckers.
The Campaign which is pioneered by the Trans Kalahari Corridor Secretariat is an opportunity for Trans Kalahari Corridor Member States to appreciate truckers who have worked tirelessly with courage and dedication to transport essential goods during the challenging times of Covid-19. The objectives of the Thank a Trucker are as follows;to appreciate and motivate truckers for their selfless efforts in putting extended hours on the road to ensure effective delivery of supplies to those who need them, putting their own health at risk as they interact with diverse people along the way.
To advocate for better conditions for truckers; prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, the transport and logistics sector was accustomed to seamless flow of cargo along the corridor, however, the situation has since changed. The campaign is therefore an opportunity for policy makers and key industry players to work together to achieve better and conducive conditions for truckers.
To create awareness to the public of the important role played by truckers in the economic development of Botswana and thereby remove the public stigma against truck drivers.
To promote road safety awareness along the Trans Kalahari Corridor.
A range of activities are lined up as part of the Thank A Trucker Campaign and these include media engagements in different platforms, road side campaigns in Tlokweng, Sese and Serule to interact with truckers and offer tokens of appreciation as well as offering road safety tips to truckers during the road activations.
