Mogomotsi Kaboeamodimo, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Seretse Khama Ian Khama Foundation has held that the former President Khama has not fled the country.

According to Kaboeamodimo, His Excellency the former President Lt. Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama will be back in the country. While some believe Khama has fled, Kaboeamodimo holds that the former President will be back when he has completed his engagements in the neighbouring country.

“The SKI Khama Foundation office is receiving a flurry of enquiries regarding the absence from the country by Former President Lt. Gen. Dr. Seretse Khama Ian Khama who is in South Africa on a private visit. We are also observing commentary that seems to be deliberately untrue and causing undue public alarm. The notion that he has fled the country or has gone into exile is simply not true. It is also not true as alleged by some that he at any point confirmed fleeing Botswana never to return. The former President is on a pre-arranged private visit to RSA visiting friends and family and having a series of meetings connected to his private visit. When Gen. Khama has completed his engagements in South Africa or anywhere else where these may take place he will return home.” Kaboeamodimo clarified.

There has been rumors, ans reports that former President Khama has fled the country, and imposed himself on an exile.

Khama crossed the boarder at Martin’s Drift boarder past three (3) days back (8 November 2021). While he notified the South African government about his trip, he did not notify Botswana government. However, the government of Botswana says the protocol dictates that the former President write to the office of the President before leaving the country.

The former President leaves at a time when the Directorate of Intelligence and Security Services (DISS) is all over him and the former spy chief, Isaac Kgosi. At the time of his departure, the DISS had requested Khama to go to DISS office to hand over his weapons

On the other hand Isaac Kgosi was in police custody. Meanwhile, Kgosi ha just been granted bail before the Broadhurst Magistrate Court. The state did not oppose the bail, after filing an urgent application to have Kgosi’s previous bail reviewed and revoked last week.

The court has ordered Kgosi to report to DISS offices at Sebele everyday until the 14th November 2021 for status hearing. Kgosi has been asked not to interfere with witnesses. In addition he will sign a surity bond of P30,000.
