BPF threatens DIS, BDP

Directorate of Intelligence and Security Services (DISS), and the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) has been warned against harassing Former President His Excellency Lt Gen. Dr. Seretse Khama Ian Khama.

The Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF) says the BDP is using state agencies to harass its patron, the Former President Ian Khama. However, the movement has threatened to go on a March should Khama be arrested.

This follows a raid by the spy agency, DIS, on Khama and Isaac Kgosi residences. The DIS had acquired search warrants to look for guns and ammunition. Though they were able to search the former spy chief, Isaac Kgosi’s residence and detain him, they were unable to search Khama’s Gaborone residence.

According to the BPF, these raids were simply politically motivated following their successful recruitment drive in Letlhakeng recently. The party views the recent developments by the DIS as a effort to paint Khama as a threat to national security, and ultimately seize his duly licensed guns to strip him off his security.

“It is common knowledge that Khama owns a number of duly licensed firearms. These are guns that were given to him by state authorities themselves or procured legally. All these guns have had their license renewals done as per the laws of our country. We are aware that the DIS and Masisi are planning on taking SKI’s guns away and also weakening his security teams. It is a strategy calculated to strip him of his layers of protection and to also paint him as a warlord about to start a war in Botswana. This is yet another low in the campaign of lies and deceit” Lawrence Ookeditse, the BPF Publicity Secretary charged.

Ookeditse further noted that should Khama be arrested, the BPF will March nationwide, and engage ‘friends globally to defend a citizen who is being maliciously persecuted.”

Meanwhile, Kgosi has been charged with six counts;
