In trying to keep up with the times, and get in touch with the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), the government of Botswana is on the quest to get on speed. The government is calling on website designers to “Face-lift” its online services.
Through SmartBots, the Government’s Botswana Innovation Hub (BIH) is hosting the second “hackathon” within Six (6) months time in an effort to reach out to citizen web developers. The web designers’ task will be to enhance and design user interface of the government online channels being a website and mobile application.
The interested designers will be allowed to participate with teams of three to five (3-5) people which upon completion of the hackathon will receive cash rewards according to their performance. Interested teams are called to register online at https://skillsranker.bih.co.bw from the 28th-3rd July 2021 in order for them to participate in the hackathon that will take a duration of four (4) days. After the registration is completed, the design hackathon, which will be held virtually, will take place from the 5th – 8th July 2021 and winners will be announced on the 13th July 2021.
“For the upcoming hackathon, teams will be required to look at the User Experience (UX) of the Government online service channel and work towards making them attractive for users to help accelerate uptake of services online. Of recent the Government of Botswana has launched eight (8)online services that have been deployed through the online portal and the mobile app. These service channels are working towards the same objective and yet the need to present the same customer interaction and experience by accessing the government services.” the press statement revealed.
The winning team will pocket Seventy thousand Pula (P 70,000) while the runner ups will receive consolation prizes of Twenty thousand pula (P20,000) and Ten thousand Pula (P 10,000) respectively.
