Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Board (PPADB) has recently approved a direct appointment tender by Department of Broadcasting Services (DBS) to have Steve Harvey Global provide Radio and Television Production Services. The tender has since attracted critisism and resistance from the general public.
Many influential people, including lawyers, journalists, entrepreneurs and politicians have condemned the multimillion pula direct appointment tender.
Taking the issue to a different turn, the Botswana Congress Party(BCP) calls for the reversal of the tender or else they take the legal route to have it reversed.
“As for Steve Harvey, we wish to advise him to withdraw from this corruption tainted tender for his own good and reputation on account of being conflicted. As an American citizen, he surely is aware of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act operative in his country. This law was created to deal with unscrupulous entrepreneurs of his type who use their influence to corruptly enrich themselves at the expense of developing countries. If Mr. Harvey chooses to proceed with this polluted transaction, in addition to other measures, the BCP, as is permitted under American law, will report him to the relevant authorities in America. The BCP will take the matter to the public through all available media, parliament, and, if need be, the courts, to stop this abuse of public resources” Dumelang Saleshando, the BCP President charged.
According to BCP, Harvey’s appointment is wrong on all levels, and there is no way it can be justified.
The BCP says it was wrong to for PPADB to approve the direct appointment as the issue was not an emergency, nor was Harvey the sole provider of the service. Moreover, Harvey is accused of being conflicted due to his bromance with His Excellency President Dr. Mokgweetsi E.K Masisi and prior association with DBS.
Before the 2019 general elections, Steve Harvey was seen a lot with President Masisi, he even went to DBS where he discussed the opportunities that could be tapped into at the Mass Media Complex.
