The President His Excellency Dr. Mokgweetsi E.K Masisi will now be left with two (2) countries to visit after tomorrow. President Masisi is set to leave for United Republic of Tanzania tomorrow.
According to the statement by the Office of the President, His Excellency is on a mission to ‘broaden the scope of bilateral cooperatation between Botswana and Tanzania’.
“His Excellency the President will meet with his counterpart, Her Excellency Mrs. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, to among others discuss ways of broadening the scope of bilateral cooperation between their two countries. The Heads of State will also deliberate on the political and security situation in the SADC Region.” the statement suggested.
The statement further mentioned how Tanzania is an important ally and strategic partner to Botswana as the two countries enjoy decades of cordial bilateral relations. It is further suggested that the two have ‘over the years cooperated in a number of areas including finance, works and transport, training and human resource development.’
The President have so far toured all the Southern African Development Community (SADC) member states except for the two islands being Sychelles and Madagascar. President Masisi has been moving about campaigning for Mr. Elias Mpedi Magosi who is vying for the SADC Executive Secretary post.
As August is around the corner, when elections for the post will be held, President Masisi will be taking a day’s visit to Tanzania, returning on the 11th June 2021. Among other senior government officials, the President will be accompanied by Honourable Dr. Lemogang Kwape, Minister of International Affairs and Cooperation.
In the the coming few weeks, we would be expecting the President to jet off to Sychelles and Madagascar on ‘working visits to strengthen bilateral relations’ with the countries mentioned.
