Local engeneering companies often get critisized for delivering half-cooked products and delivering later than they were set out to. Today the stereotypes were defied as a local company, Khato civils confirmed that they are almost done with the hundred kilometer (100km) water pipeline project.
Khato Civils was contracted to construct a water pipe from Masama to a Mmamashia. The project covers hundred kilometer of distance which consists of a pipeline and water pump stations and substations.
With a few weeks left into handing over the project to the government, this morning the company took the media on a tour of the pipeline. From the starting point (Masama) to the finishing point (Mmamashia).
Even in the midst of Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic, that was not an accuse for Khato to slow down. The Company committed itself to finishing the project on time. According to the contractor, the project is Ninety-five percent (95%) done.
The 100km Masama-Mmamashia pipeline is critical in the provision of reliable water supply to the distressed southern part of Botswana, which include the Greater Gaborone, Kgatleng, Kweneng, Ngwaketse, Lobatse all the way to Goodhope in Borolong.
The Company prides itself as not only having worked fast, but also to have used the best material ever which will last for years. According to the contractors, the materials which were sourced overseas was made to last nothing less than Fifty (50) years.
The southern part of Botswana naturally receives low amounts of rainfalls, with this project which moves water from north of the country down south, the water scarcity problem will be arrested. The Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) indicates also that it is also in talks with Namibia for the possibility of supplying Kgalagadi region with water from the ocean. If the feasibility study brings about good findings and the talks goes well, water scarcity will be a thing of the past in Botswana as a whole.
