Job description

This Health Care Auxiliary (HCA) position is responsible for providing HIV Testing and Counselling support services (HTS) in designated Ministry of Health facilities.

Roles And Responsiblities

General Roles and Responsibilities for this role Include to :

Administer HIV tests (PITC, VCT and RHT)

• Conduct screening for TB, STIs, and other HIV risk factors to identify clients to be prioritized for offering HIV testing.

• Offer and conduct HIV testing according to MOH Standard Operating Procedures and guidelines.

• Assist facilities during HIV testing during campaigns or other facility led initiatives, such as afterhours testing and testing for key and priority populations.

• Support HIV positive clients with notification and testing of their sexual partners. Track partners of ALL HIV positive clients including in PMTCT settings.

• Physically escort HIV positive clients to the

IDCC and record the PIMS/IPMS/IDCC

ID numbers for HIV positive clients in the verification register.

Conduct HIV Proficiency Testing (PT) and HIV

Internal Quality Control (IQC)

• Conduct bi-annual HIV testing Proficiency

Testing according to Botswana National

Quality Control Laboratory (BNQAL) Standard

Operating Procedures

• As per the BNQAL SOP, conduct HIV Internal

Quality Control as outlined and document in the IQC Logbook provided.

Monitoring and Evaluation

• Give daily and weekly and monthly reports on

HIV testing, Partner Notification, Linkage to Care, and stock to facility heads and I-TECH program officers as required.

Required Qualifications, Skills and attributes:

• BGSE Certificate

• Certificate in Healthcare Auxiliary

• At least 2-3 years of experience preferably in a laboratory setting.

• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work effectively in a demanding environment.

• Excellent interpersonal skills, including patience, flexibility, team work and respect for colleagues.

• Demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively and independently.

• Clear written and verbal communication skills, and close attention to detail.

• Must be a citizen of Botswana

The International Training and Education Center for Health (I-TECH), based in Seattle at the University of Washington, was established in 2002 by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) in collaboration with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Global AIDS Program (CDC-GAP).
