If there is nation that we are closest to as Batswana is Lesotho. Our traditional dress (leteise) is the same, we eat almost the same food, and more over when it comes to our language, the difference is the same. The icing on the cake is that we are twins, yes these two countries got their independence a few days apart.
This morning the nation wished all our Basotho cousins, our historic comrades in war and peace, the best on the 50th Anniversary of the restoration of their Kingdom’s independence. His Excellency Lieutenant General Dr. Seretse Khama Ian Khama, took off for Maseru to attend Lesotho’s 50th Anniversary of Independence.
The small country with its 2.2 million people is governed by a quasi-democracy, or what it calls a parliamentary constitutional monarchy. It has both a king who largely holds a ceremonial function and it has an elected parliament.
