Vee Gets The Biggest Share In ViB Mobile Downloads Royalties
Some local artists have received music royalties retrieved from ringtones across all mobile networks namely Mascom, beMOBILE and Orange. ViB Mobile, a subsidiary of Virgin Brew Media, recently awarded the money, to local deserving artists.
Kwaito Kwasa star Odirile ‘Vee’ Sento is this year’s biggest earner in the ViB Mobile artists ring tone royalties. According to ViB Mobile which recently paid music artists royalties for the second year running, Sento earned P22, 159.51, about P10, 000 more than his nearest competitor Oteng ‘DjOats’ Moshotle who received P13 591. Lezibo Simon and Moarabi Testify Moshimehi were the next highest earners, as they each received P10, 593 and P8, 934 respectively.
The royalties money was generated from all the ringtones downloaded since late last year, songs of which most were from recent the artists’ albums. The managing director of ViB mobile, Leroy Monaheng, said the money was generated mainly through downloads. He also said every party involved receives a share, although artists get the biggest share.
