16 Days Of Activism Begins Today, Abuse Must Stop!

Botswana joins the world in observing 16 Days of Activism under the theme “From Peace in the Home to Peace in the World: Make Education Safe for All.” Just like many women in other countries, Batswana women continue to suffer abuse and get unfair treatment from their male counterparts, the sad reality is that this abuse affect children too. No Violence against Women and Children officially begins today. Together we can end gender based violence.

Minister of Defence , Justice and Security Shaw Kgathi recently revealed to Parliament that women and girls suffer most from different types of physical abuse . He said 235 women were murdered in a space of three years from 2012 to 2014. During the same period, 6167 women and girls became rape victims. On average at least 5 women were raped each day in the three years.

1585 cases of defilement of girls were also recorded during the same period while , 447 cases were of indecent assault were registered. This is your business, do what you can to make sure that women in this country are safe.
