Rising tennis star Malak Macheng, just 13 years old, has made history by becoming the first local tennis player in Botswana to secure a corporate sponsorship deal. She recently signed a one-year sponsorship agreement with Choppies Botswana, a deal that is set to provide vital support in her budding tennis career.

Choppies Backs a Future Champion

Choppies Marketing and Public Relations Executive, Kebonyemodisa Kebonyemodisa, revealed that the company deliberately sought to support a young female athlete and selected Malak based on her impressive track record in the sport.

The sponsorship package includes:

  • Air tickets for travel to major tennis competitions.
  • Tennis regalia and equipment to support her training and matches.
  • A monthly allowance to ease financial constraints and allow her to focus on her game.

“As one of the youngest female athletes, we feel she should focus on her performances on the tennis court without any worries about where she would get money to travel to the next competition,” said Kebonyemodisa.

A Boost for Botswana’s Tennis Scene

This landmark sponsorship not only benefits Malak but also signals a new era for tennis in Botswana, where corporate support has traditionally been scarce. It sets a precedent for private sector involvement in nurturing young sporting talent and could open doors for more aspiring athletes to receive financial backing.

For Malak, this partnership provides a solid foundation to hone her skills, compete internationally, and continue putting Botswana on the tennis map. With this support, she is well-positioned to inspire future generations of young female tennis players in the country.
