10 Things You Didn’t Know About Pontsho Moloi

Piro as Pontsho is affectionately known is one of the best midfielders to emerge out of Botswana. He comes from humble beginnings growing up from one of the notorious townships in Gaborone known as Extension 27. The veteran attacking midfielder has played his heart out representing himself on national level and international competitions.   1. An attacking midfielder, Moloi began his football at a team called ‘Masa Masa’ and at the time he was also active at primary school.
  2. At the tender age of 19 he was promoted to the Notwane senior team and stayed at Notwane for a good seven years.
  3. Pontsho Moloi is the captain of Mochudi Centre Chiefs, and has served as a captain for many years, becoming like a son to the team.
  4. At Chiefs he won the league three times and went on an unbeaten run in 2008/09 as captain of the side.
  5. Has also been top goal scorer in the league a year before he won it and he has also won the FA cup once.
  6. He has played for all the national junior teams from under 17 level upwards and was one of the players who played for The Zebras at Afcon 2012.
  7. This past year on December he was named the beMOBILE Premiership bePLAYER of the Month and walked away with P1,500 cash and a trophy.
  8. Pontsho is a man of many talents, he is a good writer of note, and had his own column in The Voice Newspaper called Piro’s Corner.
  9. He is the son of Patrick Zibocha who used to play for the National team and Gaborone United Football Club.
  10. His two younger brothers Dirang and Pako Moloi also play competitive football for their respective teams in Botswana.
