A woman of many firsts, Amantle Montsho is one of the continent’s most prized sportsmen…well, sportswoman who has mastered the tack field. She has put the country on the map, as Botswana has always been behind in the international sports scene.

1.  Amantle Montsho hails from a rural village called Mabudutsa, although her athleticism was nurtured while she was a student in Maun. She has come a long way since then, winning on track both nationally and internationally.

2.  The 32 year-old athlete trains every day, to sharpen her skills and hone her craft. She doesn’t believe in relying on her own talent only.

3.  Before her ban she trained at the High Performance Training Center in Dakar Senegal, where she was based .

4. She has competed at the 2004 Olympic Games, the 2006 Commonwealth Games and the World Championships in 2005 and 2007 without reaching the finals.

5. Her best records thus far are 1 time World Championships Gold Medalist, 1 time World Championships Silver Medalist and 2 times All Africa Games Gold Medalist.

6. Her personal best times are 11.60 seconds in the 100 m, 22.94 seconds in the 200 meters and 49.56 seconds in the 400 m.

7. Her Commonwealth win in 2010 did us proud and made her Botswana’s first ever gold medalist of the games.

8. The former 400m world champion has been banned for two years for doping.

9. Currently she is staying in Gaborone Block 7 with her two dogs

10. As a true sports woman, she supports other sporting codes, and is a staunch supporter of her home local football team, Sankoyo Bush Bucks.
