His Excellency Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, President of the Republic of Botswana undertook an official visit this afternoon to attend the JCK Show in Las Vegas, USA from the 30th of May to 3rd June 2024. The JCK Show is the worldβs largest jewellery trade event that brings together the global jewellery trade community comprising of manufacturers, suppliers, designers, and buyers, exhibitions, network, and advance their businesses.
His Excellency Dr. Masisi highlighted that Botswanaβs attendance at the JCK Show is vital in the sense that whoever buys Anglo American will then buy and become owner of 85% of De Beers and De Beers is Botswanaβs strategic partner, whom Botswana has been negotiating with and are at the tail end of signing off the agreement Botswana has with them.
President Masisi also stated that his attendance of the JCK Show is to get firsthand assurance from the principals, managers, and owners of both Anglo American and De Beersβs commitment of separating Anglo American from De Beers before the sale of Anglo American if the sale takes place.
His Excellency Dr. Mokgweetsi E.K. Masisi will also participate at the Korea-Africa Summit, on the 4th – 5th June 2024. During his visit His Excellency the President, will hold bilateral talks with His Excellency Yoon Suk Yeol, President of South Korea, and engage Korean companies that leads in the digital technology field. Botswana and the Republic of Korea enjoy long-standing diplomatic relations which were established in 1968.
