The Minister of Education and Skills Development Dr Douglas Letsholathebe launched the 2023\24 Tertiary Financing Scholarship cycle this morning.

Delivering his address, Hon Letsholathebe told members of the media that his Ministry cares about ensuring the quality of education hence getting into service-level agreements with Education and Training Providers to ensure quality service delivery. He further said MESD continues to involve Botswana Human

Resource Development Council to ensure that tertiary education sponsorship is spread across different fields of study as guided by the identified priority occupations.

Minister Letsholathebe said his Ministry continues to benefit from the development and implementation of an online service platform which has immensely improved operational efficiency. He further explained that the processing and awarding of

sponsorship for all applicants is undertaken within a period of a month as opposed to the previous four months.

β€œResponse to an application is given in real-time. In other words, an application is processed within 30 minutes and a sponsorship letter is issued out” he said. Minister Letsholathebe told the gathering that tertiary education financing services have been greatly improved as students make their applications from the comfort of their homes without the need to travel to the Department of Tertiary Education Offices in Gaborone or other main offices for application submissions.

The tertiary financing sponsorship application and the call centre will be operational from Monday 17th April 2023. The cut-off points for new students are still maintained at 36 points.
