This morning, the Botswana National Youth Council (BNYC) and its board members engaged with the Youth from the Chobe Region. BNYC whose mandate is to facilitate, coordinate and implement youth-focused activities in the non-governmental sector, selected 65 youths who are either unemployed, neither in education nor training for a workshop in Kasane.
The main focus of the workshop was on Mental Health Awareness; Navigating the world of work; Goal setting and Vision Branding; Mindset Change and Proposal Writing. The aforementioned topics were offered by BNYC Board members to the youth free of charge.
During her Goal Setting and Vision Branding presentation, Ms Yandile Nuku encouraged the participants to take themselves and their brands seriously. She advised the youth to ensure the prompt provision of information about their businesses to clients, and be ready to act on any business opportunities encountered.
Mothusi Ramaabya, Board member -Molepolole, who presented on mindset change, encouraged the youth to shun the ‘silo’ mentality. βLearn to work as a group and utilise your unique skills, success is not always about an individual, start to learn that some projects are better carried out by a group,β he said. Mr Ramaabya concluded his presentation by pleading with them to change their mindset, never give up and know that anything is possible.
When giving a vote of thanks, Annah Mokgotho β a farmer, appreciated BNYC for the opportunity of engaging with them as the Youth in Chobe. She said they felt honoured to have been given the opportunity to meet and discuss with their representatives closely. She also urged the youth to work hard and believe in themselves.
