President Dr Mokgweetsi E. K. Masisi has reiterated his Government’s commitment to lobby for Batswana to take up strategic roles in all the multilateral organisations Botswana subscribes to. The President also indicated that the country continues to lend support where Batswana make individual efforts to find jobs in these organisations. He said this today when bidding farewell to former Permanent Secretary in the newly established of Justice Mr. Gaeimelwe Goitsemang who has also been Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where he spent about 25 years of his career.

Goitsemang has been appointed by the UN General Assembly as a member of the United Nations Joint Inspection Unit for a five year term commencing on 1st January 2023.

President Masisi advised Goitsemang to use his position to advance government’s course and look out for opportunities for Batswana. β€œI recently spoke to the Secretary General of the UN about your appointment and also emphasized our quest for more positions for Batswana. I informed him that Botswana has very educated people in all disciplines and it is our desire to serve the UN. Go out there and fly the blue, black and white flag. Of course you will be a UN employee but this beautiful flag which you won’t be able to don will always be in your heart. Make us proud.”

Goitsemang will hold a post of an Inspector which is at Director level. The Unit is the only independent system-wide oversight body with the authority to perform inspections, evaluations and investigations throughout the United Nations system. The Unit conducts inspections, evaluations and investigations to provide an independent view of the efficiency of services and programmes, as well as the proper use of funds by the participating UN agencies.
