Keatlaretse Mabote Representing Us At The Rio 2016 Paralympic Games
Keatlaretse “Carter” Mabote is the only athlete who qualified from Botswana for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. Mabote qualified for the 200m and 400m T 12 classifications races, after scooping two bronze medals at the Tunis international Para athletics meet Grand Prix in March.
Mabote, who is visually impaired also managed to pass a classification test which is part of the qualifying procedure. He brought home two bronze medals at 200 and 400m. This athlete was forced to travel to Tunis as there are no professional classifiers locally. It has been noted that a lack of qualified coached and finances hinder the development of our sports as we still rely on other countries.
The runner has been doing well in the build up to the Rio hosted games, winning a bronze medal at the Para-grand prix in Tunisia and had two weeks training in Potchefstroom with compatriot, Nijel Amos. This 26 year old will compete tomorrow (5PM) Botswana time. Lets support him so on his quest to become the first Paralympics medal home for the first time.
