As soon as Botswana Television began running in 2001, we were introduced to fresh talent from our very own country. Entertainment shows became very popular and we saw the best of the best giving us value for our time. We honor and respect all presenters who started with this humble station, but we thought of going down memory lane and bring you the ones who stood out.
1. Joel Ntsoro Keitumele.
Talk of a man whose first appearance on national television was only through a gospel music video tape. He started in 2003 presenting a Sunday gospel program – Melodi ya Kgalaletso. Five years down the line, Keitumele was called in as a stand-in on Mokaragana – Btv music talent show. He took Mokaragana to dizzy heights and was met with a flurry of praises from fans.
2. Gugu Mavuma.
Radio and television (TV) personality Gugu Mavuma has always wanted to be on TV as soon as Botswana Television started. He started off as a continuity presenter and his presenting job ended and in 2004 he was again called in for another TV job to host a show called Coca Cola Cool Cash Show. The talented Mavuma then again became the presenter of a magazine shows Prime Time Live and Bonang.
3. Malebogo Marumoagae.
Miss Botswana 2007, Malebogo Marumoagae is not just a pretty face. She is one of the first presenters of the popular magazine show which airs every Saturday on Botswana Television, Prime Time Live. She drove many Batswana to be fans of the show with her brilliant presenting skills. Marumoagae graduated from university with a bachelor’s degree in economics and population studies.
4. Omphile Sehurutshe.
Presenter of the Botswana Television current affairs program, The Eye, Omphile Sehurutshe, is one of the few that manages to keep people glued to the television. Whether you love politics or not, he gives such powerful presenting skills that make us not want to miss the eye. If you are into the truth, integrity and objectivity, Sehurutshe is your guy.
5. Leungo Pitse.
Pitse got his big break when he landed a role in the BBC show, The Number One Ladies Detective Agency, starring alongside big name stars like Jill Scott, Idris Elba, Anaki None Rose just to mention. He auditioned for Mantlwaneng but didn’t get the job. A couple of years later, he auditioned for ‘My African Dream’ and got the job. Currently he is doing his thing in the popular music show, Flava Dome.
6. Steez.
Seasoned rapper,radio and television presenter and Motswakolista is how many of us know Mochine O Ichenchang. He was a favorite in the popular music show Flava Dome, and had so many women fans. Now he is yet again doing his thing in another magazine show, Pula Power.
7. Sthandwa Mmopi.
She needs no introduction. Sthandwa Mmopi made the country proud by representing it as a presenter on MNet Africa Studio 53 where millions of people across Africa and the world should have seen her by now. She shot to fame soon after presenting the popular Big Brother show for BTV following her stint right here at home on Flava Dome, a music show.
